Leibchen, a daschund mix, comes to stay overnight !

In a few weeks little Leibchen, a daschund mix, is returning for a visit. He is a real cutie and so easy going! His human, Barbara, left him with us while she went on an expedition to the land of the Northern Lights, where she was bundled up in sub zero weather and taken for a dog sled ride. She also witnessed a spectacular displays of the Aurora Borealis.

This little guy comes with many special items: medications for arthritis, a raw chicken neck for AM and a raw mini lamb bone for a mid afternoon snack. Before bed he gets a blue chew bone that makes his teeth clean and his breath sweet. In the car he sits up front in a designer car seat with a fancy safety belt. One look at him and you know that he knows “he has got it good” !

Toby ! Our Excellent Host !

Tomorrow, Toby has two good friends arriving around noon for an extended stay. Cha Cho, a very handsome black mimi Poodle and Dillon, a shitshu with a short trim. Cha Cho’s human, is taking care of him while his owner is rehabilitating from a leg injury. Toby and Cha cho are so relaxed and accepting of each other, they sleep intertwined, very black and very white! See photo! They love to chase a retrieve toys. Cha Cho tosses toys in the air and catches them. Toby love to be chased with a toy in his mouth!

Private home boarding is not easy to find…

Private home boarding, however was not, is not easy to find. It is rarely listed on the internet with kennels in a given area. I usually found them through word of mouth recommendations. Once when we were going to Nantucket we found a situation very near the ferry in a home with several small dogs and a family with two children. They reported that Toby was always ready for play and had taken a shine to the daddy who looked a bit like Santa Clause! He was a happy camper when we picked him up!

Private Home Boarding

I had never heard of “Private Home Boarding” when Donna and Gary told me about Bill’s Dog Sitting Service, where they had recently boarded their two Westies.. That was back in Newburyport, Massachusetts, when Toby, my poodle, was only 5 years old. Bill’s place was a picture perfect little white Cape with green shutters .

I was ushered into a very tidy home with  a formal living room & dining room and on the left an expandable gate cordoning off a very large sunny room with, an impressive TV showing “Animal Planet and 4 large couches full of lounging dogs! On the right the was a door leading to a ruff looking area for the big guys and on the left a french door leading to a formal garden with  grass and flowers for little guys like my Toby. No cages in sight. Even though it took Toby a little while to gain confidence he was soon running with the pack. That was it! Never again was he caged behind chain link!
